Leh – Pangong – Hanle

Day 1: Leh To Pangong Drive

Distance: 223km/ 5hrs

Limetrails shares the jaw droppingly beautiful journey from Leh To Pangong Lake By Road Full Video. Starting from Leh we drove past Shey, Thiksey, Karu, Chang La Pass, Tangtse Valley to finally reach the stunning Pangong Lake. Visually this is the most stunning drive I have done in the Ladakh segment. It felt like driving though a tunnel of gold with a vivid blue ceiling! We did the drive in Mahindra XUV 500 w10 automatic and were impressed with its performance in this high altitude extremely rough terrain. The 223 km drive took us around 5 hours. Driving from Leh to Pangong Lake is the most amazing experience for a driver or rider. I put this vlog together hoping all travellers planning a trip to Pangong will find the information useful.

Day 2: Pangong to Hanle

Distance:  km/  hrs

The next morning we woke up before the sun and spent the most mesmerizing unreal hour watching the sun slowly paint the sky in a hundred shades of orange and gold. Post a simple breakfast of omelette and toast we drove down the slope and across the road to the lake. That’s when we made the mistake of venturing a little off track and within seconds the tires were buried in sand and spinning away on spot. Luckily a few other drivers came to our assistance and we managed to pull the XUV out of the sands back to hard ground. After about an hour by the beautiful salt water lake and the customary pictures, we realized it was time to hit the road again if we were to make it to Hanle by sunset.

This turned out to be the best part of the Pangong visit, driving on the remotest dirt track, we realized it was undoubtedly, unarguably the most spectacular route we had ever driven on, that could surpass any European or Australian ocean side drive. Driving along the crystal clear deep blue waters of Pangong, we witnessed the colour change a hundred shades of blue every second of the journey. What an incredible experience it was. The route from Pangong was via Spangmik, Merak, Tsaga La and Chusul. The 163 km drive from Pangong to Hanle took us around 8 hours.

Come join me on the most spell binding drive in India around the spectacular Pangong Lake!!

Hanle is one of the remotest village in Ladakh located at an altitude of 4500 metres near the China border. Famous for its clear night skies, Hanle is home to the 3rd highest optical telescope observatory in the world. Here’s a glimpse of the spectacular landscapes around Hanle and the observatory.

Bon Voyage
