Mutton Rara Masala Recipe

Delicious, spicy and flavorful Mutton Rara Masala recipe from the hills of Himachal. A perfect curry combination with roti or rice. Mutton – 1 Kg (cut into pieces)

Onion – 3 large finely chopped

Tomato Puree – 1 cup

Ginger – 1 inch

Garlic – 10-12 cloves

Bay leaf – 1

Cumin powder – 1 tsp

Cumin Seeds – 1 tsp

Asafoetida (Hing) – 1/2 tsp

Coriander powder – 2 Tsp

Garam masala – ½ tsp

Turmeric powder – ½ tsp

Red chilli powder – ½ tsp

Kashmiri Red Chili Powder – 1 tsp

Oil – 5 Tbsp.

Salt – To Taste

Goda Masala – 1 tsp

Water – 2 Cups

Method of Preparation – Mutton Rara Masala recipe

To make Mutton Rara Masala, Heat 5 tbsp. oil in a pressure cooker and fry the chopped Onions for 3 minutes.

Add Cumin Powder, Bay leaf, Cumin Seeds, Asafoetida (Hing), Ginger-Garlic Paste, Coriander powder, Garam masala, Turmeric powder, Red chilli powder, Kashmiri Red Chili Powder, Goda Masala, Salt to taste.

Keep stirring while adding the spices or the spices will stick to the bottom of the pan and burn. 

Saute for a minute and add the tomato puree and 2 cups of water.

Pressure cook it for 5 whistles.

Open lid and let it simmer on low flame.

Wash and clean the mutton pieces.

Add the mutton to the gravy in batches while stirring so that all the mutton pieces are evenly coated with the gravy and spices. 

Put the lid on and pressure cook the mutton for 5-6 whistles. 

open the lid and give it a good stir.

Delicious Mutton Rara Masala is ready.

Remove it in a serving bowl and serve it hot with rice or roti.
